Pros If you have a large house to host running kids and one or two parents, by all means, have it at home. No fee for hosting at a birthday party venue, so you can splurge on the entertainment part of the party by renting a bouncy house, hire a face paint artist, a petting zoo, or a magician.
Cons: Hosting, cleaning, entertainment is all on you.
local Park
Pros Kids can run free and play to their hearts content. Personally this is my favorite option. I recommend scouting the park beforehand to check the restroom are nearby and clean. Verify the playground is functional and safe to the kids to play at. Remember to call the corresponding parks and recreation organization to reserve your area.
Cons: You have to bring everything to the park; so if you have a large party, you may have to recruit some help to help you with setup and cleanup.
The weather is usually the one variable that prevents us from having kid’s birthday party at the amazing local parks. During the months of October to March, it is really a gamble to organize a party at the park, it may rain or it may be too cold.
Kid’s Birthday Party Venue
Pros: Hosting, cleaning, and entertainment is on the location. Yes, once you finish with the initial setup of the room assigned for your party you can actually mingle and have a chat with other parents, while the kids play.
Cons: It will be more expensive than hosting the birthday party at your place, if you have space or at the park. Here is Southern California most of the businesses that host parties charge between $30 – to $50 per kid. It will be up to you to decide how many kids you want to invite. Be sure to check with each venue, as they may have a minimum number of guests and usually each place offer a different options or packages.
food – Drinks – Cake
The list is endless, but I vote for easy does it! Pizza, and CapriSun juices for the kids and my favorite for the adults is a sandwich tray from our local sandwich store paired with your favorite potato chips and a veggie tray just in case someone wants to eat a bit healthier. I would focus on how you are planning on displaying or serving the food, drinks and cake. If you are planning of buying serveware I recommend choosing a classic design that can be used for multiple events at home.
